As the sun sets over dallas and the stadium lights flicker on the highland park Scots gear up for the first game of the 5A division 1 playoffs. No strangers to the pressure of the playoffs this will be the their third playoff appearance in three years winning the state championship back to back the last two years. Fresh off an undefeated season the fighting Scots were matched up against Frisco Independence, the game was a real toss up. Would the Scots be brought down by Frisco? Would their undefeated season come to an end? It was all going to come down to the boys and what would unfold on the field. The game started with a 14-14 tie right off the bat, the tie was broken by a returned fumble turned touchdown by Chris Reid. A couple plays later highland park recovered another fumble from Frisco leading to another touchdown pass from chandler Morris to Drew Scot. Scots went in leading 28-14 at halftime. No points were put up in the third quarter. Top of the fourth hp runs it in for a touchdown with point after attempt good kicked by Wesly Winters. 35-14 Scots. Frisco failed to put any more points on the board in the fourth and the game ended 35-14 Scots. Scots are set to play college station the Saturday after thanksgiving in Waco.

On the road with 5A Division 1 reigning champs Highland Park - Round 6 - The State Championship

After last week's nail biting win over Denton Ryan the Highland Park Scots were matched up to face the Manvel Mavericks in the Texas 5A D1 State Championship. On a rainy Friday in Dallas the HP boys boarded the busses to their last game of the season. For a lot of the senior team it would be the last time they suit up in a football uniform or ever play together on the same field. This game was destined to go down in the history books and the boys made sure of that. In case you've missed the headlines that seem to be on every sports station and news channel, after being down the whole game the HP boys were trailing 39-49 with four and a half minuets left in the fourth quarter. Showing no quit, with a little over two minuets left in the fourth quarter John Stephen Jones runs it in for a touchdown, point after was good HP 46 Manvell 49. Then Hp tries an on side kick and its caught by #88 Saustad. Corwin then brings it down on the 11 and with the clock running out John Stephen finds Cade Saustad again and takes the lead for the first time in the whole game with 34 seconds on the clock bringing the score to HP- 53 Manvel -49. Manville gets on the field and Manville Qb Kason Martin #12 throws a bomb to #5 Jalen Preston who is brought down on the 1 yard line by #30 James Herring and the clock runs out, Scots Win!

On the road with 5A Division 1 reigning champs Highland Park - Round 5 - The Semi Finals

In the days leading up to the semi final game, the trees along the streets of Highland Park and University Park were covered in yellow ribbon and bows supporting the Highland Park Scots football team. Cars around town were decorated with window paint reading "Beat Denton Ryan", "Take State" or simply the number 5, to represent all of the state titles Highland Park will have won pending a win at the state championship this season. This was one of the biggest games for Highland Park - a make or break point. Not to mention a much anticipated rematch. Last year, 370 days later to be exact, Highland Park beat Denton Ryan in the semi finals and then went along to win state. Some called it a "lucky win" due to Denton Ryan's QB1 suffering an ACL tear mid-game. This season Denton Ryan's QB1 was back rebounding from his ACL tear with an undefeated season behind him, ready to take on the Scots. Denton Ryan was favored to win over Highland Park and advance to the state championship, however the Highland Park Scots had a strong will and determination to repeat and go to state once again. Their slogan is "Reload, Repeat" after all, and you bet they had every intention of doing just that.. With over 5,000 fans in attandence and the the game being televised locally, both teams had their work cut out for them. *spoiler alert* The Highland Park Scots are going back to state.

Week after week the HP boys have been fighting for a win in hopes of another state championship. Some weeks, like this one, was a lot harder than prior weeks but they didn't give up. Yet again Highland Park's hard work and determination was not topped. Highland Park was able to keep Mansfield Lake Ridge at bay and send them packing while Highland park ran the clock out taking home the win 37 to 35.

On the road with 5A division 1 reigning champs Highland Park

A photo story following reigning 5A division 1 football state champs Highland Park High during round 2 of the Texas state playoffs. Highland Park High is lead by Don Shula National High School Coach of the year Randy Allen.

Nestled in the shadows of Downtown Dallas lies the Park Cities home of the reigning 5A division 1 champions Highland Park High School. The day after Thanksgiving wasn't just any other day for these boys, it was the start of the second round of the playoffs at At&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. If you are not familiar with how the playoffs for Texas football work it’s sudden death whoever wins advances and whoever looses is knocked out, no consolation rounds. For defending state champs, Highland Park, winning means having a shot at the state title one more time and loosing means the end of the season and falling short of every teams goal, a state title. Scroll down to see the recap of the day.
